What is nipple reduction surgery?

Nipple reduction surgery is a procedure to reduce the size of the nipples. This can be done for cosmetic reasons, such as to improve the appearance of the breasts, or for medical reasons, such as to relieve pain or discomfort from large or protruding nipples.

Who is a good candidate for nipple reduction surgery?

Nipple reduction surgery is a good option for people who have large or protruding nipples. Some of the reasons why people choose to have nipple reduction surgery include:

  • To improve the appearance of the breasts
  • To relieve pain or discomfort from large or protruding nipples
  • To correct asymmetry of the nipples

How is nipple reduction surgery performed?

Nipple reduction surgery is usually performed under local anaesthesia. There are several techniques available to reduce the size of the nipples depending on whether the height or width or both require reduction. Mr Jabir will choose the most appropriate technique in consultation with you but in general, involves making an incision around the nipple and removing a wedge-shaped or circular piece of tissue. The incision will then be closed with stitches.

What are the risks of nipple reduction surgery?

All surgery carries some risks, but the risks of nipple reduction surgery are generally low. Some of the potential risks include:

  • Bleeding
  • Infection
  • Numbness or tingling in the nipple
  • Scarring
  • Unevenness of the nipples

What is the recovery process like after nipple reduction surgery?

You will need to wear a dressing on your nipple for a few days after surgery. You may also experience some pain and discomfort, which can be managed with pain medication. The swelling and bruising will usually go away within 2-4 weeks.

What are the results of nipple reduction surgery?

The results of nipple reduction surgery are usually permanent. However, your nipples may continue to change slightly over time due to ageing or weight gain or loss.

Nipple reduction surgery can significantly improve the appearance of the breasts. If you are considering nipple reduction surgery, book a consultation with Mr Jabir to learn more about the risks and benefits of this procedure.
